Full Moon Gold Bar – Joyful Celebration
The Traditional Full Moon Haircut Ceremony
A time-honored tradition celebrating a baby’s first month, where the baby’s hair is shaved as a symbol of blessings and a fresh start in life.

Traditional Full Moon Haircut Ceremony
In folk customs, "shaving the head" refers to the first haircut ceremony performed when a baby reaches one month old. Traditionally, this ritual required ten symbolic items, but over time, it has been simplified to five key elements:
-
Red Egg – Symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.
-
Duck Egg – To ward off bad luck and bring protection.
-
Mugwort – Representing purification and cleansing.
-
Green Onion– Wishing the child intelligence and wisdom.
-
Stone – Signifying bravery and resilience.
At a minimum, a red egg, a duck egg, and a stone should be prepared.
A common saying accompanies this ritual:
“Chicken egg face, duck egg body” (雞蛋面、鴨蛋身),
wishing the child a beautiful face like a chicken egg and a strong, healthy body like a duck egg.
The stone represents courage ("stone guts") and a strong head, symbolizing the hope that the child will grow up to be resilient, determined, and steadfast in doing what is right ("hard-headed" in a positive sense).
